Daejangseung Parade + Jangseung Daeje + Traditional Jangseung Carving
Jangseung Park is a themed park created in May 1999 after expressing regret that the jangseung culture had been distorted and altered over time, with the aim of preserving and carrying on the fading traditional culture and protecting it as the premier jangseung cultural preservation area, while also holding the Chilgapsan Jangseung Festival. It’s great as a folk learning center and also as a family outing spot. The overall meaning of Chilgapsan Daejanggun expresses peace, well-being, productivity, and the future of Cheongyang County as well as the spirit of the people of Cheongyang, who seek to make a fresh leap forward. It is said that jangseung originated from ancient sotdae and seondol, and that by the Joseon period they came to be called jangseung. The jangseung in Cheongyang are faithful reproductions of the ones that are actually offered in village rituals. Around the Daeboreum of the first lunar month, the Jangseung ritual is still performed. Here are the Chilgapsan Daejanggun and Chilgapsan Yeo-janggun, both standing 11.5 meters tall, and Jangseung from all over the country have been recreated. It’s great as a folk learning center and also as a family outing spot.
