Ganseolgot is the place where the sun rises first over the mainland of the Korean Peninsula in the New Year, and every year during the festival, tourists from all over the country visit.
Located in Ulju-gun, Ulsan, Ganjeolgot is the place where the sun rises first on the Korean Peninsula, and every year on New Year’s Day, it is a major attraction visited by countless people to watch the sunrise. Here, the sun rises about a minute earlier than at Homigot in Pohang, and about five minutes earlier than at Jeongdongjin in Gangneung. One of Ganjeolgot’s symbols, the Ganjeolgot Lighthouse, is a historic lighthouse built in the 1920s during the Japanese colonial period, and today it blends harmoniously with the park, becoming a beloved spot for a wonderful walk and a popular photography location. The white lighthouse standing tall against the blue sea makes Ganjeolgot’s scenery even more striking. Here is another special attraction: the world’s largest wishing mailbox. In fact, if you drop off a postcard, it can be delivered anywhere in the country, and at the Ganjeolgot Haeolje (Ulju County specialty product market), free postcards are being distributed, giving visitors a cherished memory.
