A representative military camp festival set against Hwadojin, established in the late Joseon period to mark the coastal boundary in front of Incheon
The Hwadojin Festival is a representative historical and cultural festival of Jemulpo Port in Incheon, held annually to honor and carry on the history and traditions of Hwadojin, a military camp established during the Joseon Dynasty to defend against foreign invasions. Hwadojin Festival, Incheon’s oldest military camp festival and a representative local festival, is celebrating its 36th year this year and will take place over three days from September 5 to 7, 2025, at the North Plaza of Dongincheon Station and Hwadojin Park. This festival, with about 160,000 participants, centers on official events recreating historical scenes, including an opening ceremony starting with a grand parade and a closing ceremony concluding with calligraphy, as well as the Eoyeong General’s fortress-warding procession and the Gyoji-hasa ceremony. In addition to a variety of cultural performances such as musicals, choir performances, busking, and a history talk concert, there will also be a children’s dance competition, a youth fringe festival, and a residents’ singing contest, all featuring stages where local residents can actively participate.
