At the summit of Bohyeonsan (1,124 m), where the best view of stars can be seen from anywhere in the country, stands the Bohyeonsan Observatory of the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, a research facility that houses advanced astronomical observation equipment, including the country’s largest 1.8 m optical telescope, and is regarded as the cradle of Korea’s astronomical research. By creating facilities for astronomy science learning, hands-on exhibitions, and camping spaces, it provides young people with dreams and learning opportunities in space and astronomy science. Facilities open to the public include the Astronomy Science Museum and the Exhibition Experience Room. The observatory includes an exhibition hall, a dome-shaped planetarium that screens seasonal constellation videos, an observation room where visitors can directly observe the sun and constellations in the sky using telescopes, and an audiovisual room where constellation lectures are held.
