The following festival details are for the 2026 festival; the 2027 festival details are being updated*The Ice Land Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival, held in Gangwon State, is a unique winter festival that was named one of CNN’s '7 Wonders of Winter' in 2011. Every January, when Hwacheoncheon, famous for its clear water, freezes solid, a festival is held where visitors can experience ice fishing and catching wild-caught fish, including the mountain trout, known as the queen of the valley. Not only can you enjoy the thrill of ice fishing for mountain trout, but you can also savor them fresh as sashimi or grilled, and in addition to fishing, a variety of winter activities such as ice sledding, snow sledding, and bobsledding take place, attracting more than one million visitors each year.
