The food menu for the festival site below is based on last year’s (2025) festival content, and the 2026 festival content is currently being updated.* The nostalgic Gwangju Chungjang Festival is the largest representative festival of Gwangju in the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, originating from Chungjang-ro in Dong-gu, Gwangju, Jeonnam, the city’s premier commercial district. This festival holds special significance as the nation’s first memory-themed festival, uniting generations and social classes through the universal theme of “memories.” By sharing the precious memories everyone holds, it creates a space for memory production where people of various ages and backgrounds come together to create new memories. In particular, because it unfolds around the festival’s core spaces—Geumnam-ro and the 5·18 Democratic Square, both sites of great significance in the history of democracy worldwide—it carries historical and cultural value that goes beyond being a simple local festival.
