The 65th Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival is Korea’s premier patriotic and historical cultural festival, held to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Hansan, one of the three major battles of the Imjin War, and to reflect on Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s spirit of national defense and leadership. The festival takes place around the Victory Day, the 7th day of the 7th lunar month (August 14 in the solar calendar), throughout the Tongyeong area. It consists of programs that allow visitors to vividly experience the historical story, including reenactments of the Battle of Hansan, the procession of the Commander-in-Chief of the Three Provinces Naval Forces, the send-off ceremony, and the victory celebration arrival ceremony. In addition, by offering a variety of content that people of all generations can enjoy together—such as traditional cultural experiences, performances, exhibitions, marine sports, media content, and nighttime programs—it has established itself as a festival open to people of all ages and genders.
