The festival food information below is from last year’s festival (2025), and the 2026 festival information is currently being updated.*The Pyeongchang Hyoseok Cultural Festival is Korea’s premier autumn cultural tourism festival held in Bongpyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang County, Gangwon State. This festival first began in 1999 and is held every year around September, set against Bongpyeong-myeon, the actual setting of Gasan Lee Hyo-seok’s masterpiece short story “When the Buckwheat Flowers Bloom,” a fine example of modern Korean short fiction. The main scenery of the festival site is a field of white buckwheat flowers blooming profusely as if sprinkled with salt, and visitors can directly experience the natural scenery of Bongpyeong, the setting of the novel. The main program includes literary events honoring the works of Lee Hyo-seok, traditional folk games, a local food market, and a variety of cultural and artistic performances featuring local residents and artists. Through this, the Pyeongchang Hyoseok Cultural Festival contributes to revitalizing the local economy while promoting the region’s literary heritage and traditional rural culture.
