장소 소개

Surungwon is a space dedicated to commemorating King Suro, who founded Gaya. It carries the meaning of an elegant forest connecting Suro’s Tomb and the Daeseong-dong Tumuli Cluster, the royal mausoleum of the Gaya kings, with an image reminiscent of the garden where King Suro and Queen Heo once strolled together. This 39,600㎡ ecological park was created with the theme of the meeting between King Suro and Queen Heo, and the walking trail on the east serves as a space commemorating Kim Suro, the founder of the Garakguk Kingdom, by planting straight trees such as the Korean nutmeg oak, chestnut, and oak, giving it a masculine feel, while the western side, passing the Daeseong-dong Tumuli, was designated as a space for Queen Heo, where fruit-bearing trees such as wild persimmons, stone pear, apricot, and Japanese apricot were planted. The garden pond symbolically represents Gaya, the maritime kingdom, and was planted with species such as the spiny water lily and yellow water lily, which are believed to have once inhabited the wetlands of the ancient Gaya period.
