장소 소개

The 'Seoul Royal Palace Guard Changing Ceremony,' a flagship traditional-culture reenactment hosted by the city, vividly recreates the changing of the guards who protected palace gates in the Joseon period. The guard commander, a junior 6th-rank official, guarded the palace gate, controlled entry, and patrolled with subordinates and guards. Based on actual historical records, the ceremony centers on Deoksugung in the late Joseon period. It is held six days a week except Mondays, at 11:00 and 14:00 in front of Daehanmun at Deoksugung. To add interest for citizens and foreign tourists, various hands-on programs run: 'Opening Drum Experience' (beating the drum to announce the start), 'I'm a Guard Too' (wearing the commander's costume to play the role), and 'Traditional Costume Experience' (a popular program to take photos in Joseon attire).
