Since its opening as a port in 1883, Incheon Metropolitan City began as Korea’s first planned city and, over more than 140 years, has undergone various changes and expansions to grow into the city with the greatest area among the country’s eight major metropolitan cities and the unlimited potential of a population of 3 million. The Incheon Urban History Museum conveys the history and transformation of the city of Incheon Metropolitan City to citizens in an easy-to-understand way through various physical artifacts and models. The Modern City Hall introduces the formation and changes of Incheon as a city from its opening to 1883 until its liberation in 1945, while the Incheon Model Hall presents the current state of Incheon through models. Through the map, one can understand Incheon’s territorial expansion, coastal reclamation, and changes in space.
