장소 소개
Seonnong Daeje is Dongdaemun-gu's representative traditional festival, a modern reenactment of the 'Seonnongje' rite that prayed for a good harvest and offered sacrifices to the farming gods Shennong and Houji. It carries on the historical value of the state rite in which Joseon kings personally prayed for a good harvest, plowed fields with the people in the chingyeong ceremony, and looked after the people's livelihood. Held at the Seonnongdan altar in Jegi-dong, the rite is performed traditionally, with a reenacted royal procession as a highlight. To honor the origin of seolleongtang—said to come from the king bestowing it on the people after the rite—a tasting event also serves soup cooked in large cauldrons. Now in its 47th year, it has become a cultural venue for residents and tourists to connect, not merely a reenactment.
