Sunset event
Located on Gwangji-gil in Anmyeon-eup, Taean-gun, Chungnam, Kkotji Beach offers a picturesque view with its 5-kilometer white sandy beach and the Grandpa Rock and Grandma Rock. The sunset, glowing red beyond the two rocks, is regarded as one of the finest scenic views symbolizing Taean. Since ancient times, rugosa roses have bloomed abundantly along the white sandy beach, earning the lovely name “Kkotji.” A couple or family walking along the long white sand or enjoying a date while watching the rolling waves also becomes part of the scenery of Ggotji Beach. The two rocks symbolizing Ggotji Beach are steeped in a sad legend. During the Silla period, Jang Bogo, the maritime king, established a base on Anmyeondo, and the relationship between Seungeon, the commander of the base, and his wife Mido was very good. However, Seungeon, who had gone off to war, never returned, and Mido, who waited for her husband while gazing out at the sea, died and became Halmae Rock. The story is that the large rock located a little further out toward the sea than Halmae Rock naturally became Halbae Rock.
