A historical and cultural festival honoring the spirit of Jeong Yak-yong

The Jeong Yak-yong Historic Site is located in Neungnae-ri, Joan-myeon, Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province, and is the hometown where Dasan Jeong Yak-yong was born, raised, and spent his later years. This place is a historically rich area rooted in the five great ancestors of Jeong Yak-yong, and it is a place imbued with his life and scholarship. Dasan Jeong Yak-yong inherited the practical learning tradition that led to Yu Hyeong-won and Yi Ik, and by adopting the ideas of the Northern Learning school, he consolidated practical knowledge and emphasized the welfare of future generations, thereby synthesizing practical learning. Over his lifetime, he wrote more than 500 volumes and composed over 2,700 poems, and in 1836, the second year of King Heonjong’s reign, he passed away in his hometown at the age of 75. The historic site includes the tomb of Jeong Yak-yong (a Gyeonggi Province cultural monument), as well as the birthplace’s Yeoyudang hall, the shrine’s Mundo Temple, a memorial hall, a cultural center, and a street of culture.
