The Busan Mackerel Festival has been held every October since 2008 at Songdo Beach, South Korea’s first public beach with a variety of tourist attractions such as the Songdo Yonggung Cloud Bridge, Songdo Cloud Walkway, and Songdo Marine Cable Car, and is recognized as a hot place in South Korea. Songdo Beach is home to a wide range of tourist attractions, including the Songdo Yonggung Cloud Bridge, Songdo Cloud Walkway, and the Songdo Marine Cable Car. It is South Korea’s first public beach and one of the country’s hottest spots. It was planned to create a synergy effect for revitalizing the local economy and fostering the tourism industry by leveraging the regional characteristics of the area where the Large Purse Seine Fisheries Cooperative, which catches about 90% of the mackerel produced in coastal waters, and the Busan Joint Fish Market, where 80% of the nation’s mackerel volume is traded, are located, through the commercialization of festivals linked to local food, culture and arts, and tourism resources, to boost the local economy and foster the tourism industry.
