The foundation of the Eumseong Pumba Festival is the life of the late great-grandfather, the saintly beggar Choi Gwi-dong. Today, as Father Oh Ung-jin, he became the foundation for the establishment of Flower Village, and with his own disability, he was the very person who went around the neighborhood of Mugeuk-ri in Geumwang-eup, gathering food from the people and feeding beggars who could not even beg. For this reason, his life is regarded as that of a saint of love that no one can imitate.The theory of pumba has been passed down in various forms. “Pumba” has been passed down as an onomatopoeic word serving as a kind of rhythmic beat used in the refrain of the gakseori taryeong. The Eumseong Pumba Festival combined the firmly established pumba, which had become synonymous with the traditional jangdolbaengi, with the philanthropic spirit of Grandfather Choi Gwi-dong.Even though our lives in the modern age have become more abundant, spiritual poverty and inequality still exist.
