Migratory Bird Watching and Culture-Related Events for Migratory Birds

The Geumgang Estuary Bank was built by damming the mouth of the Geumgang flowing into the West Sea; each winter it is a migratory-bird arrival site and where Seocheon's beautiful coast begins. The mudflats and farmland around the bank are an ecologically important wintering ground for winter migrants like swans, swan geese, Baikal teal, mallards, and northern pintails. The Bird Ecology Exhibition Hall here, built by the estuary, lets visitors view these migratory birds. The 3rd-floor general hall deepens understanding through photo panels and taxidermy displays, and runs a 'Sounds of Nature' room where you can get familiar with birds by naked eye or telescope. The 2nd-floor Seocheon Nature Ecology Hall displays photos of migrants visiting Seocheon and shellfish native to its mudflats, and runs a mock birdwatching hall and bird education hall. You can also join the Seocheon Geumgang Estuary learning trip and make mood lamps, spoon-billed sandpiper brooches, and fans. The area offers beautiful estuary scenery amid reeds, and with Geumgang Ecological Park, Seocheon Leisure Campground, and the National Institute of Ecology nearby, it is good for linked tours.
